India Today’s ‘Mind Rocks’ – Youth summit 2012

NOTE: This post is pretty late. The event took place on 7th Sept.

The day started at 6:30 am when I woke up to find that my pass hadn’t been confirmed since I was late to get my name on the list for the university invitees. I had to get ready in the last minute as I had wasted most of the time by going back to sleep and I was woken up my a call from a friend who had confirmed my pass. And Im glad that I made the effort to get the pass because I would have regretted staying back. The event was BIG. Big enough to get Arvind Kejriwal and Akhilesh Yadav and many others on the stage with Rahul Kanwal at the Siri Fort Auditorium.
We all missed breakfast but we didn’t regret it cus they had arranged for breakfast for the invitees which was delicious. I mean cmon, who in their right mind would prefer the canteen food to mad over donuts?

The event started with Chairman, Arnoon Purie’s welcome address and Akhilesh Yadav on stage for a Q & A with the audience and some very interesting questions were put up. Then we had Anu Malik, Masaba Gupta, Imtiaz Ali, Ayushmann Khurrana, Ali Zafar and Sanjeev Bikhchandani to talk about there journey of success and many other things along with some interaction with the audience. God. Ayushmann and Ali Zafar look so darn cute!!! We had Ayushmann singing ‘Pani da rang’ and some more songs by Ali and many funny experiences by Imtiaz Ali. And yeah, some shayari by Anu Malik (sigh).
Then we had the five Olympic stars: Gagang Narang, Mary Kom, Sushil Kumar, Yogeshwar Dutt and Vijay Kumar on stage and they shared their Olympic experience with us along with other experiences that helped or hindered their efforts to get there and prove themselves along with Q&A’s from the audience. Then came Ajay Devgn and we talked about his work ethics, the film industry, his chemistry with Kajol, etc. Then came Sonam Kapoor, Huma Qureshi and Vir Das to talk about love and relationships and we couldn’t stop laughing at Vir’s statements about women in relationships and their men. Then Ekta Kapoor came up and discussed her soaps and entertained the audience with Q&aA’s where people asked obvious questions like why do most of her soaps have the same story line and why didn’t anyone die from the six generations in ‘Kyunki saas bhi kabhi bahu thi’ (laughs).
We had a break after that for snacks and yeah, we were hungry by then.
Then we had Arvind Kejriwal and Sandeep Dikshit having a political dialogue on his stand with Anna Hazare, the power hungry politicians, hypocrisy and many other things along with some really good questions from the audience for both of them.
We also had Kapil Dev, Unmukt Chand and Mohammad Azharuddin (respite for the cricket lovers) discussing the importance of formal education in a sportman’s life, striking a balance between education and passion and their love for test cricket matches. Every speaker had loud hoots from the young audience and there was such a bright and lively atmosphere in the auditorium.
Then we had Vineet Nayar, CEO, HCL discussing something which I missed (had gone out for some fresh air, couldn’t stay at one place for so long).
But when I came back, I saw Priyanka Chopra addressing the audience (in sky high heels. I don’t know what they’re called) and talking about her childhood in the States and her unexpected Miss World crown victory. And yeah, she also sang for the audience. To sum it up, she talked about music, movies and life.
After that, we had a live performance by Indian Ocean which we all enjoyed and damaged our vocal chords in the process.

By the time it ended, we were exhausted and it was 10 pm so we had to hit the road back to the hostel. I slept on the way and we reached at 12 am. Aroop woke me up and we dragged our feet back to our rooms where I collapsed, overslept, and got late for college on the next day.
